Recognized by
employers throughout the United States, the
Certified Professional Coding program of the
American Academy of Professional Coders
focuses on the learning of service and procedure
codes along with diagnostic codes in the
outpatient settings, using HIPAA mandated code
sets. To enhance learning, students of BSTI
will be enrolled in an anatomy and physiology
class that includes the study of medical
terminology. The program rounds out with an
introduction to reimbursement concepts, an
overview of the ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS
systems. Upon successful completion of the
AAPC's CPC exam, graduates will earn the
credentialing status of CPC-A.

Certified Billing & Coding Specialist Program |
|
Gain knowledge of the
billing concepts needed to optimize
reimbursement for a full range of healthcare
services. Introductory coding concepts
using HIPAA dictated code sets are addressed
for a more complete understanding of the
billing process. Additionally, students will
learn MS Office programs, medical
terminology and industry specific software.
HIPAA Alerts, as it pertains to Medical
Billing & Coding, are discussed throughout
the track. Near completion, an exam review
will be scheduled in preparation of
challenging the National Healthcareer
Association’s certification exam for
credentialing as a Billing & Coding
Specialist to broaden job opportunities or
career advancement.
NOTE: This
series of courses has been created to
prepare individuals for positions in Medical
Billing. Information on medical coding is included in the
curriculum as an integral part of Medical
Billing. This is course is not intended
to prepare individuals for positions in the
field of Medical Coding.

CPC Prep Course
(AAPC)
This course prepares and builds confidence of
experienced coders to sit for the American Academy of
Professional Coders exam. At the end of this course
you will have become familiar with the elements that
make up the AAPC certification exam to code in a
physician’s practice. The requirements of the AAPC
certification are identified and you will be able to
demonstrate the ability to meet those requirements in
each of the areas of the exam. (Prerequisite:
A minimum of one year’s experience in the field of
medical coding or the ability to pass a pre registration
exam to demonstrate your knowledge in the coding field.) See

Phlebotomy Skill Set:
Basic Venipuncture
This
3-day skill set uses both didactical and
clinical methodologies covering basic
venipuncture collections using the evacuated
tube, the syringe and the winged infusion or
butterfly methods. Additional topics will
include overviews of infection control
techniques, basic anatomy and physiology of the
cardiovascular and integumentary systems as well
as tricks of the trade and common dilemmas faced
by those health care professionals that obtain
these body specimens. As an enrollee, you will
demonstrate your mastery of basic venipuncture
collection methods utilizing phlebotomy models.
A certificate of completion will be issued upon
successful completion of a clinical and written
assessment. (Prerequisite: Clinical
Healthcare Professional)

Medical Transcription |
|
Learn to transcribe medical records from
admitting to discharging, apply
appropriate format to transcribing
reports, and use specialized rules of
grammar and punctuation specific to
dictated medical reports. At the
completion of this course students will
achieve a basic working knowledge of
transcription of medical reports,
Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
